Its 105-acre (0.42 km2) campus is 20 minutes from Kuala Lumpur International Airport and is a half an hour away from capital’s city centre. Unlike many of the city campuses, Nilai UC has a lush, green campus, making it one of the most picturesque private university grounds in the country.
This has led to it being immensely popular amongst local students and with international applicants who make up approximately 35% of its student population. These international students hail from 40 countries which include Sri Lanka, China, Kazakhstan, Nigeria and Cambodia, making the campus a veritable melting pot.
This school is one of the most popular at Nilai UC and students have a great deal of choice (see list below). The BBA programmes were launched in 2008 and are validated by Oxford Brookes University, UK. Upon the successful completion of the programme, student are awarded a Nilai UC award and an equivalent award from Oxford Brookes University (upon the satisfactory fulfilment of their requirements).
Students in any of the diploma and degree programmes can opt to continue studies at Oxford Brookes University at any stage of the programme. This option allows students the flexibility to opt for an overseas experience should they be able to afford it.
The Masters programmes are two-year programmes which carry awards from Birmingham City University, United Kingdom.
These programmes are pre-university courses equivalent A-levels or Malaysian STPM. Besides being providing a pathway into Nilai UC degree programmes, both programmes are internationally recognised and are accepted at a number of universities in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
Nilai UC has one of the best-equipped schools in the field of hospitality and tourism. It has six specialist kitchens, a 100-seater formal dining restaurant and latest front office amenities. The kitchens alone are over 5,000 sq ft (460 m2) and this includes a 100-seater demonstration kitchen where invited industry experts regularly share their expertise with students.
Nilai UC School of Hospitality and Tourism regularly sends it students for competitions, in particular, students from its Culinary Arts programme. Among its notable achievements was winning the ‘Best Teamwork’ award at the Taste of Italy cooking competition in 2008.
Nilai UC offers programmes in science and technology and upgraded its facilities at the end of 2009. There is now a dedicated Science & Technology block with new laboratories, lecture rooms and auditoriums. There’s also a dedicated hangar and airplane for the students of the hugely popular Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering programme.
The Computing programmes are very much centred on the language of programming. The modules are designed to give students a strong foundation.
The Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering programme has given Nilai UC a very strong foothold in this niche market. Very few institutions offer this programme and fewer yet offer it alongside European Aviation Safety Agency qualification making it an internationally recognised qualification.
Nilai UC is owned by Nilai Education Sdn Bhd with the Federal Land Development Authority of Malaysia (FELDA) having a 30% stake in the university college. Nilai UC share close links with Oxford Brookes University, UK (which has been consistently named the best new university by the UK Times ‘Good University Guide’).
